【インタビュー】 Jacques-Elieが語る、 カルチャーの多様性への変化

新進気鋭ブランドRIBEYRONとRADD LOUNGEによるコラボレーションアイテムの発売に伴い、デザイナーの１人であるJacques-Elieに独占インタビューを敢行。彼にとって"最も重要"と語る音楽や、カルチャーの多様性への変化とは？自身のバックグラウンドと共に語ってくれた。

■ 2015年にニューヨークを拠点にしてる友達とRIBEYRONを立ち上げたんだ。

ー まず、あなたの生い立ちを教えて下さい。
Can you tell us about yourself?

「僕はモントリオールで育って、ローザンヌに留学した。今は数年前からパリを拠点にしてるよ。2015年にニューヨークを拠点にしてる友達とRIBEYRON(リベイロン)を立ち上げたんだ。それ以来、この活動をしているよ。」

「Yes, i grew up in Montreal and moved to Lausanne for studies. I am based in Paris since a few years now, i started the label end 2015 with a friend who is based in NY. I work on this since then.」

ー いつからファッションに興味を持ち始めましたか？
When did you get interested in fashion?

「思い出せる限りだと、学校でノートにスニーカーのスケッチを描いてた事かな。」

「As far i can remember i was interested by fashion, i was at school and was drawing sneakers in my note books.」

■ どんなアイディアも、仮に自分のスタイルに合わなくても否定しないようにしてるよ。

ー Etienne Saint-Denis や Lu Philippe Guilmette などと Lookbook を作っていますが、彼らとはどのような経緯で仕事をしているのですか？
You work with people like Étienne Saint-Denis and Lu Philippe Guilmette. What led you to work with them?

「彼らとは、Clara Turcotteっていう友達に紹介してもらったのがきっかけで、仕事をするようになった。ブルックリンでSS16のルックブックの撮影をして、うまく行ったから、彼らと連絡を取り合っているよ。」

「I started to work with them when my friend Clara Turcotte introduced me to them. They shot the SS16 lookbook together in Brooklyn, it went well so kept in touch with them.」

ー ファッション以外に興味のあることはありますか？
What are your interests apart from fashion?

「ファッションの仕事の前は、プロダクトデザインの勉強をしていたから、工業製品にすごく興味がある。あと建築もだね。こういう分野にも関わりを持っておくことも重要だと思ってる。 」

「I studied product design before to step into fashion so i have a great interest for industrial products and also architecture. I find important to keep a foot into these disciplines also.」

ー 今後ファッションシーンはどうなっていくと考えていますか？
What do you think is the future for the fashion scene?

「僕が10代の頃は、サブカルチャーは互いに相容れないものだった。ちょっと誇張して言うけど、パンクミュージックを聴いてる人は、自分と同じような格好をした人だけと遊んだりして、自分たちと違う人とは関わらなかった。僕がスケートを始めた頃、スケーターたちが、ヒップホップを聴いてる人たちとケンカするなんてこともあった。90年代の終わり頃から変わり始めて、音楽に関してもそういうことはなくなった。今はすっかり変わったね。良い方向に。何に関しても前みたいな壁はなくなって、他の人にジャッジされることなく好きな方向を向ける。仮に壁があったとしても、前みたいにはない。個性に対するリスペクトが強くなっていていると思う。みんな前より居心地がよくなって、好きな自分でいられる。これはファッション業界にもいえるよ。みんなが良い方向に進んでいくといいね。」

「When i was teeneger there was sub cultures that were more difficult to merge to each other. I exaggerate a bit here but it was like people who where listening punk music where hanging out with people just like them who where dressing the same also and where not really merging with the people who where too different. When i began skating skaters where even sometimes in fight with people who where listening hip hop music. At the end of the nineties it tended to change while musical movements began to merge. Today all is different in the positive way as on all the levels there is less barrier, people can look the way they want without being judged by the others or if there are it is way less than before. It think the respect of individuality is getting stronger and people feel more comfortable to be and look as they feel comfortable. This reflects on fashion industry, people should continue to go in the positive way.」

■ 音楽は恐らく僕にとって最も重要なものの一つだね。

ー 音楽に興味はありますか？ あるとすれば、どういったものに興味がありますか？
Do you have an interest in music? If so, what kind?

「音楽は恐らく僕にとって最も重要なものの一つだね。僕はいつもコレクション制作のために絵を描いたり、コレクションのことを考える時も、何をするにしても音楽を聴きながらやるんだ。一人の時は、家でもスタジオでもイヤホンを持ち歩いてるよ。音楽は気分に影響するし、僕がやること全てを左右するものなんだ。」

「Music is probably one of the most important thing for me. I always listen music when i draw or think the collections or for pretty anything i do. When i am alone i just bring my earpods everywhere in the house and same at the studio. It influence my mood and gives the tone of pretty everything i do.」

ー 最後に。あなたのベストソングを教えて下さい。
